SMS Marketing Discourages Invasive Tactics

SMS marketing

SMS marketing is one of the most personal forms of modern day communication. Does it provide tons of immediate return? Absolutely. But, if you’re not careful, you’ll shoot yourself in the foot by being overly invasive. Here’s a few things to keep in mind when developing your SMS marketing campaigns.

1. Respect quiet time.

Avoid texting before 9AM and after 9PM. Doing so will only cause subscriber frustration and increased opt outs. Even you wouldn’t want your favorite retailers blowing up your phone at 11PM. As with any marketing tactic, there are always exceptions to the rules, but as a general guideline, communicate within this window of time.

2. Be careful of campaign overload.

Don’t overdo it. When scheduling campaigns, keep your original frequency in mind. If you promised to send out five messages a month, don’t accidentally send six. On the same token, don’t devalue your offers by saturating promotional campaigns. To be more specific, don’t send out five of the same promotions in the same month. As long as the campaigns are still relevant and qualified, don’t be afraid to diversify.

3. Never add a subscriber to your list without expressed consent.

Can you manually add numbers to your SMS marketing list? Yes. However, you must have either written or clear verbal consent to do so. Without this, you could face tons of legal issues, and at the very least, experience account suspension. In general we always encourage our customers to favor text or web opt in, as this eliminates any permission based concerns.

In general, if you follow these basic tips, your campaigns will always stray from seeming invasive. You’ll experience maximum results, and subscribers will stay engaged.
