How Do I Set Up An Integration Through Zapier?

Zapier is an extremely powerful integration tool that connects the most popular apps and services in the world today with each other. The service exists because it's unrealistic for any one service like SlickText to build thousands of individual integrations with other platforms. Instead, each individual platform creates just 1 integration with Zapier and they handle the "talking" between the two services.

The best part about Zapier is that you can create an endless number of integrations without writing a single line of code or getting a developer involved!

So how do you get started with Zapier and SlickText? First, you'll need an account with both services. We both offer a free plan that you can use to test the waters and try out different integrations. Then, set up your integration or "zap."

Creating a New Zap

Once you have both a Zapier and SlickText account, you'll want to create what's called a "Zap". A zap is an individual integration between two services. As an example, Hubspot connected to SlickText is considered a zap. Another would be Infusionsoft talking to SlickText.

Find The Service That You Want to Talk to SlickText

Now you'll want to find a service in Zapier's app directory that you want to "talk" to SlickText. Examples may be Hubspot, Infusionsoft, Salesforce, Facebook Lead Ads... etc. They call this the "trigger app."

After you have selected a trigger app, you'll want to select a "trigger". This is the event that takes place in that service that pushes data to Zapier and then to SlickText. As an example... "When a new contact is created in Hubspot, send that data to SlickText". Other examples may be "When someone opts out of marketing in Salesforce."

Once a trigger is selected, you will either generate or create some "dummy" data as a sample to push to SlickText. We'll use this data in the next step.

Select SlickText As Your Action App

Once you have your trigger app and trigger all set up, you'll want to select SlickText as your action app. Currently there are 4 supported actions that you can take with our Zapier integration. Those are...

  • Opt in Contact - Opts a new contact into one of your text messaging lists
  • Opt Out Contact - Opts an existing contact out of your text messaging list
  • Send a Message to a List - Sends a text message to all contacts on a list
  • Send Message to a Contact - Sends a text message to a single contact on a list

Select which action you wish to take and move on to the next step. At this point you will now have to connect your SlickText account to Zapier. We do this by inputting your API keys from SlickText into your Zapier account. That may sound confusing however it's really simply. Think of API keys as just another "username" and "password" for your account. Here's how you get them...

  1. Log into your SlickText account
  2. Click on your name in the top right and select "My Account"
  3. On the left, select "API"
  4. If your API keys are not yet generated, click "Generate Keys"
  5. Copy your public and private API keys

Paste your keys back into your Zapier account and then “Continue.” If all steps were successful, your SlickText account will now be successfully connected.

From here, all we need to do is "map" the data that comes from your trigger app to SlickText. This step is very easy. It's essentially saying this piece of data goes here, that piece of data goes there. Once that is complete, you can test your Zap, give it a name and start using it!
